尾道市駅から東西に約2kmのびる商店街中心部に位置する広場の更新計画。
改修前のこの場所は、人通りの多い場所でありながらも機能を持たないポッカリとあいた穴のような海岸通りから商店街への抜け道のような人気のない場所であった。
この場所に子どもの遊び場や、くつろぐことのできる日かげ空間を提供することで、商店街に観光者や地域の人々双方が使いこなすことのできる場所を計画した。
新設するトイレ棟は商店街に直交する向きで敷地中央に配置することで、大きすぎた既存広場を二つのほどよい大きさのスペースに分割している。トイレ棟西側のスペースは敷地奥の安全なエリアに築山やミストの噴水など、子どもが走り回って遊ぶことのできる場所設け、商店街側には気軽に腰かけることのできる階段状のベンチを設えた。
This is a renewal project for a plaza located in the center of a shopping street stretching 2 km east to west from Onomichi Station.
Before the renovation, the plaza was like a hole in the ground with no function despite being a busy place, like a loophole from the seaside street to the shopping street.
By providing a children's playground and a shaded space where people can relax and unwind, we planned a place that can be used by both tourists and local residents in the shopping district.The new restroom building is located in the center of the site, perpendicular to the shopping street, dividing the overly large plaza into two moderately sized spaces. The west side of the toilet building is a safe area at the back of the site with a hill and mist fountain where children can run around and play, and on the shopping street side are stair-like benches where they can easily sit down.
